Well done, dear friend! I appreciated your reading of the Rabbi’s prayer as the world marked the grim 20th anniversary of an event so terrible that it still defies comprehension. Yesterday morning I watched several hours of live TV coverage of the memorial ceremonies, songs, speeches, bell tolling and reading of victim’s names in New York, at The Pentagon in Washington, and at the dedicated field in Shanksvile, PA. It was a highly emotional day, with the current President of the United States and First Lady joined in New York by two previous Presidents, Obama and Clinton and their spouses. V.P. Kamala Harris spoke in Shanksville as did former President George W. Bush. I hope every American who missed President Bush’s “The America I Know” address yesterday will search for it and listen carefully, because his message, calling for national unity, was clear and powerful. The America that he and you and I knew in the wake of the September 11, 2001, terror attacks, the united America, no longer exists. We are a nation divided, our very survival as a people threatened by the current climate of hate, misinformation and mistrust. As your Rabbi so eloquently explained, we need to let the ancient prejudices wash away with the rain, let the sun shine into our world and learn to “share the joys and feel the sorrows of our neighbors.”
I was wrecked after yesterday’s emotion charged memorials and reminiscences and turned in early. That is why I missed your comment at Shady’s Place and this fitting tribute on your site. Thank you for your visit. I have a new post running and so you now have two song lists to enjoy.
