Happy October, y’all! It’s the first Thankful Thursday in October and it’s also another special day. Today is dad’s birthday! I surprised him this morning with gifts and cards from Gizmo (cat) and myself.

He was surprised, verklempt, and grateful. I made his morning. Mom is making his birthday dinner now: we’ll sit down to steak, shrimp, and salad.
I’m thankful for the Writing.com community for telling me about OctoPrep, to prepare for NaNoWriMo in November. It has been helpful and I’ve been writing for 15 minutes each day.
Have you ever liked someone so much that when they are super sweet to you, you just like them even more?
I’m nervous about NaNoWriMo. This is going to be my first time attempting to write a novel since the incident in 2013 and I’m feeling a little nervous.
I decided to use OneNote for my prep items. As I opened that program, I found the starts of a novel that I was writing for a novel writing class, my last semester of college, that I couldn’t finish. I saw what I wrote six weeks before the incident and it’s like I predicted it. I cried as I read that. I didn’t delete it, but I closed it out and began writing the prep for 2022.
I was sharing this with Crush on Sunday and he told me, “you got this!” I do. I really do. I’m not crying now tears of joy, you are. Maybe we’re all crying tears of now joy together.
Anyway, I’m still thinking about a slam poetry novel of sorts. The theme is going to be a comeback. Someone is having a comeback.
I’m also grateful that we saw a sun set last night since it’s been a rainy week. I sent these photos to Crush and he liked them. He thought I should dye my hair pink, since the sun set gave my hair a pink hue.

Today was the first full sunny day and it was so nice. It felt great to take a walk and take some photos. I felt grateful to breathe in the warm sunny air.

Crush also started his new job today and I’m so happy for him. Anyway, I’m also grateful for both of my jobs, my co-workers, friends, and family. What are you grateful for today?
Hi, Jessica Marie!
Happy Thankful Thursday, dear friend, the first in October as we ramble on toward Halloween and the end of year holiday season!
I also wish your dad a happy birthday. Looks like you went to a lot of trouble to make sure it was a happy one for him, and I know he appreciated it. I am all verklempt after seeing the gifts you gave him and reading the cards, both the funny and the sentimental ones. I’m sure he also welcomed the surf ‘n’ turf birthday dinner your mom prepared.
I am also impressed that you are making time to get back into writing and will endeavor to complete a novel. Your special guy is doing a great job of staying connected, being supportive and giving encouragement. I’m glad the weather cleared up and that you wasted no time getting out in the sunshine and taking in the natural beauty around you, including brilliantly colored fall leaves. The only way I ever see such an awesome sight is looking at pictures posted by blog friends like you. Keep ’em comin’!
Enjoy the rest of your week, dear friend JM!
