Self-care isn’t selfish, it’s essential: Self-Care September

Happy September! I can’t believe we are in the ninth month of the year. It’s a difficult month for someone near and dear to my heart; and it’s the start of a very difficult 8 weeks for me. I will be there for someone that is near and dear to my heart, and I will be caring for myself in the next 8 weeks, like I’ve been doing for the past 7 years. I have high hopes for myself this year and if I can help someone else, I will.

In the time before COVID-19, I subscribed to Action for Happiness newsletters and each month they would send me calendars of different actions to take for the month. When COVID-19 became a reality, Action for Happiness stopped sending these calendars because we were all quarantined. They’ve stopped for the past 18 months.

This morning when I checked my e-mail I was happy to see an e-mail and calendar waiting for me. I like to think we are getting back to “normal,” but we are not out of the pandemic yet. While we are not in the clear, I’m glad they sent the calendar because even though we are still quarantined, we can still perform these actions. Let me share the calendar.

Happy Self-Care September! I hope you will be able to do some of these activities on this calendar. I have printed it out for myself and I’ll write down the progress. Reading these activities, they’re easy to do while quarantining.

Good luck!

  1. Hi, Jessica Marie!

Happy Thankful Thursday and happy Self-Care September to you, dear friend! Thanks for coming to Shady’s Place early this morning and leaving a meaty comment. I appreciate that!

I’m sorry that the 9th month of the year represents a tough stretch for someone near and dear to your heart, and also begins a difficult 8-week period for you. Thanks for telling me about the Action for Happiness newsletters. I clicked over to enlarge their September calendar and appreciated the entries for every day of the month. They are the kind of helpful, useful, common sense prompts that are taught in the motivational seminars I attended. People do tend to beat themselves up, but by following the affirmative actions listed for every day of the month on the Action for Happiness calendar, you can stay on track and in “up time” mode, as we called it in NLP. Frankly, I don’t understand why the organization stopped sending the calendar for 18 months during the pandemic. As far as I can tell, the recommendations they make on their calendar do not increase your risk of contracting COVID.

Have a safe , happy and Thankful Thursday, dear friend JM!
