Can you believe it’s the last Thursday in October and there’s only two more months of the year left? Halloween is on Saturday and while my plans changed because of some civil unrest, I managed to find two other activities that I feel more excited about, more so than the original plan. I can’t wait!
Dad retires on Monday (2 November) after 33 years of service. He’s going to miss his job and offered his services, I can’t wait to see what his next chapter will be. Yesterday, they had breakfast for him and gave him a lovely parting gift – hard liquor and a blanket. Today he was honoured by the commissioners and mom said he got emotional. They posted his photo, with the Sheriff, on Facebook. Marsha screen shot it for me since I am going to make a digital scrapbook page of his retirement.

I’ll have to crop and play around with this photo. Dad served people. Regardless of what he was doing, he was a community man first, kind and just. Everyone loves dad and appreciate what he has done for battered women, at-risk children, minorities, and Jewish groups. He believed in the power of kindness and he was in the business to serve and protect, not harm and destroy. Dad once told me, “My job is to make sure everyone comes out of it alive. I don’t want to harm or kill anyone.” He loves his job, however, and it makes a difference.
I’m also thankful for Jonathan, Ben, and Alex of RSJ Philadelphia. They held a movie night last Saturday and they made sure I had gluten-free foods. We had a blast and I’m grateful to have found a group. Here’s a page I digital scrapbooked and I put it into my Happiness Box Project.

I’m also grateful that my full-time job is still having a pumpkin carving contest. Although we can’t be together and they’re not supplying the pumpkin, we were able to purchase our own and take photos to send to HR. They’ll announce the winners tomorrow and I can’t wait to see the entries. Here are a few photos I took. The theme: OH MY! SHE JUST DRANK PUMPKIN SPICE LATTE!
What are you thankful for today?
