Happy Thankful Thursday, y’all! I’m feeling a bit better, after some rest, talking to friends, and seeing some of my co-workers today, I’m getting there.
The Southern region of my full-time company started a Bible and Torah study group and since I found out I’m part Ashkenazi and have been embracing Judaism, I decided to sign up and learn more about Judaism. Yesterday, Avi taught us about Passover. While I know the bare basics and since I held my own this year and learned even more about it, I’m thankful Avi taught us and I’m thankful that the Christians are happy learning too. I’m also glad that Avi and I are embracing our Christian colleagues. The Torah is the Old Testament of the Bible, so we’re not that radically different. Joel sent us Avi’s notes and he wrote a detailed booklet about Passover. I printed it out and can’t wait to use it next year.
I asked Avi if he could teach us about Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur. Normally, I go out for Seders for these two holidays and I can’t fast. Health reasons, it’s not healthy for me to fast for the whole day. Since I will be at home for these holidays, I want to learn. Avi is going to plan it. Today after I got done work, I went to Target and I was so happy to see that Target now sells Muslim and Jewish holiday cards. Now, hopefully they’ll start selling Hindu cards. While I’m no longer a practicing Muslim, the cards made me verklempt. I always had a vision of making diversity cards and I’m glad others see the vision too.
The caterpillars we are raising are really growing. I’m glad mom plants milkweed year after year, it attracts Monarchs and we raise them. Raising these Monarch caterpillars to adult butterflies has been fun, and brightening in these dark COVID days. I think one may be going to Chrysalis. The caterpillar is on the top of the netting, that’s why I’m thinking that.
I’m also thankful for my friends and family. What are you thankful for today?
Hi, Jessica Marie!
I’m happy that you have the desire and the opportunity through Avi to learn more than you already know about Judaism. I am also thrilled to know that Target is one store that sells Muslim and Jewish holiday cards. I love the idea of a store offering diversity in greeting cards. I didn’t know you guys are raising Monarch caterpillars again this year. Thanks for posting pictures. It will soon be time for them to spread their wings, bid you farewell and fly down to Mexico for the winter.
I wish you a happy Friday and a safe and peaceful weekend, dear friend JM!
