Thankful Thursday 19 September 2019

I am writing to y’all from a “new” laptop! Mom bought a new laptop two weeks ago, installed Windows 10 on her old laptop and gave it to me. I’m very verklempt about this gesture and grateful. It’s an HP laptop with an Intel processor and it’s running much faster than my old AMD processor laptop. I now will have a joyful time writing my newsletter and other documents!

Today was a weird day. I’m friendly with everyone and although I have had tough experiences, I try not to let my experiences make me bitter or jaded. I’ve learned and I trust my intuition more, but I find no harm in saying good morning. Well, well, well, I started talking to this guy after some bizareness last week (“the bar wouldn’t serve me because I was sweaty. They thought I was on drugs, but I would have to be withdrawing from heroin or on X to sweat.”). He has savage written above his right eye, and a filled in tear drop under his right eye, fearless tatted on his neck.

Don’t get me wrong, I love Wraith and I would get another one, however, I think keeping them in areas where they can be concealed for professional purposes, but shown off for fun (if you want to) is the best. I try not to judge, but when you have “savage” written on your forehead and a gang symbol under your eye, I would be cautious of such a person. I asked him what he did and he does work. Anyway, he asked me if I drank alcohol, I said no, and he said he wanted to ask me out. I made the mistake of giving him my number, he was way too forward and breaking boundaries. Yep, I guess “savage” works and I blocked him. The vibe was weird and I’m listening to my inner voice: KEEP AWAY.

I was chatting with some full-time and library co-workers about this and they all said, “Jess, you did the right thing. No one in their right mind would go out with someone with “savage” written on their head and visible gang symbols.” We all laughed about it, though, because there is some humour in this. I’m grateful for their ears and shoulders, and for the humour that could be found.

In happier news, Denise gave me two crockpot soup recipes yesterday and gave me some advice on how to make them. It was so nice to chat with her and I’m thankful that she remembered me because last Saturday I asked her for the recipes. I also noticed that she took my suggestion and bought Family to add to our DVD collection. I’m going to write a review so I can advertise that we have it. I’m very thankful about this. I’m very thankful for the people I work with at both jobs.

I’m thankful for my parents and family, as always. We also have had nice weather, 40 degree mornings, 70 degree days. This weekend is supposed to get hot again, but this is a nice reprieve. Thankful for the walks and also, today I had a beautiful hair day!

  1. Hi, Jessica Marie!

I am happy to know that your mother followed through and gave you her old laptop to use. That was very nice of her and I too am verklempt. Remember to thank her every day for her kindness and generosity. A device that helps you write faster and save time is a wonderful gift.

You are wise to steer clear of that strange guy, not because of his tattoos, but because he showed early signs of disrespecting you and wanting to have his way. I hope he leaves you alone now that you have declined his offer to go out socially. It was nice of Denise to share soup recipes. If you (or you + your mom) make new soups and post the recipes I will share them with Mrs. Shady. She loves to make large batches of soup, some to serve and the rest to freeze and save for future meals.

I envy you and your 40 degree mornings and good hair days. It is still a steam bath here in Florida. Take care and have a safe and happy weekend, dear friend JM!
